Looking for a daytime outing this summer? Take advantage of the Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center, located in Chantilly, Virginia! The center is open every day from 10 am to 5:30 pm, and admission is free! With thousands of aviation and space artifacts, an IMAX Theater, and an Observation Tower, there is lots to explore at the Udvar-Hazy Center.
There are numerous exhibitions currently on display at the Udvar Hazy center, most recently including a Transformers exhibit which is sure to captivate visitors of all ages! The Center’s own Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is featured as Jetfire in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Check out where part of the film was shot, along with historic Transformers toys, aviation- and Jetfire-related characters, and props used in the film.
After viewing movie artifacts at the Transformers exhibit, head over to catch one of the films at the IMAX Theater. The Udvar-Hazy center is currently featuring D-Day: Normandy 1944, Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag, Hidden Universe, Hubble, and The Dream is Alive. The films are no longer than 45 minutes each, so visitors can easily catch a couple shows during their visit. Shows run all day long, but be sure to check show times in advance, as most films are only screened once or twice per day.
Go beyond the placards and have questions answered in-person by an expert during the Ask an Expert series. Lectures are held on the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 12:30 pm, in front of the SR-71 in the Boeing Aviation Hangar.
For the music enthusiasts, free concert series are held throughout the summer. Sunday, June 29, the center will showcase The United States Navy Band, The Commodores. The 18-piece jazz ensemble will put on an energetic performance, mixing traditional big band music, jazz vocal arrangements, and fresh new instrumental music.
Will an array of events and exhibits, there is something to please everyone at the Udvar Hazy Center.
